Josh Burdette, who died Sept. 1, 2013 at 36, was called many things. Head of security. Door-staff supervisor. Crew chief. That guy. He said: "I am not a bouncer." Read our obituary for him.

There's not a bad sightline here, but we enjoy watching concerts from the upstairs balcony. Show up early to get one of these sought-after spots.

Quite possibly the best venue in the world, go see a show here on a Sunday night. Sometimes the bands are amazing and the crowd isn't overwhelming.

Founded by Dody DiSanto and Jon Bowers, the 9:30 Club was the home for alternative music in D.C. during the early 1980s and was a regular stopping point for bands touring the east coast.
