Parc de Belleville

The Parc de Belleville, one of the parks and gardens of the 20th arrondissement of Paris, is situated on the hill of Belleville, its 108 metres making it the highest park in Paris. Once the independent municipality, Belleville was annexed by the City of Paris, and today is bounded by the rue de Belleville. Many immigrants settled there: German Jews, Spaniards, Algerians, Tunisian Jews, Armenians, Greeks, etc. Historically, Belleville was a working-class neighborhood. Actually, it is a neglected area featuring some interesting sights.
In the time of Baron Haussmann the park was divided into many small parks. The area was deemed insalubrious, but later it turned into one of the most beautiful parks in the city. It features a lake with a rock in the centre with artificial cavestones, a rock shelter, and the Corinthian church.
Suspension bridge and the Pont des Suicidés (suicide bridge), a 12m high masonry bridge, are other park`s highlights.

We found ourselves in the area around le Parc de Belleville after a long walk from le Parc des Buttes Chaumont--which was great as well. We approached the park from above, by way of la rue des... read full review

Staying in the Belleville neighbourhood provided us with ample opportunity to visit this little gem of a park. It is truly an equivalent of Montmarte without the buzzing tourists. Reached by an... read full review
