Statue of Liberty - is one of America's most famous attractions, - a symbol of New York City and the United States.
The Statue of Liberty was presented to Americans by French people on the centenary of the American Revolution. The opening of the statue took place in 1886 by the President of America of those days - Grover Cleveland. The monument is located near Manhattan to the southwest on Liberty Island. The height from the ground to the torch is 93 meters. The island can be reached by ferry. In the pedestal of the statue there is a museum which is dedicated to the history of the statue. If you go up the elevator, then the Crown will offer views of New York Harbor. In 1984 the restoration of the Statue of Liberty and the islands has began. 87 million dollars had been collected. It was reopened in 1986. After the attacks of September 11, 2001 the statue was closed for some period of time, but by the end of the year it was reopened again. After the attacks the security measures have been reinforced.
Entrance to the statue and visiting the museum is paid. Booking tickets online, to avoid long line, is recommended. It is better to visit the Statue of Liberty on a weekday, as on weekend there are long line for the ferry. If you get hungry on the island, there is a cafe with local cuisine. If you want to bring your relatives souvenirs there are souvenir shops on the island.
