After your visit to the Forbidden City, exit at the north gate and visit JingShan Park just across the street. The views on top of the hill are fantastic and the entrance fee is only 2 RMB.

The rooftops of the Forbidden City appear sparkling gold in the sunset. Get there early, too many photographers with tripods.

Come on a weekday, with clear weather, in the late afternoon and hike to the top to watch the sunset. Best view in Beijing
