the Palace of the Ottoman sultans on the European side of the Bosphorus in Istanbul on the border of the districts of Besiktas and Kabatas.

Built in 1842-53, for Abdul-Mejid I, who was burdened medieval Palace complex of Topkapi and wanted to keep the Palace in the Baroque style, able to compete in elegance with European residences of the eighteenth century. As architects were the Armenians from the family of Balanov. On decoration Crystal staircases and other interior it took 14 tons of gold, while the total cost of construction exceeded five million pounds of gold. Among the main attractions, was presented to Queen Victoria chandelier of Bohemian glass, weighing nearly five tons, and a collection of paintings that the artist performed by order of the Sultan. For several decades the Palace complex, the initially modest in size, has grown to the point that took 45 thousand square meters.
